    • Experimental Research project on Ecophysiology of marine algae on Helgoland Island, North Sea
      • Apr 2020 - May 2020

Experimental and self-designed project in form of a research paper titled "Diurnal photosynthetic activity along the depth gradient" Experiments are carried out on 3 consecutive days from the 6-8th of May in 2020, in order to minimize the influence of daily variation in irradiance. Measurements were taken from 05:00h - 22:00h, every 2 hours for 3 individuals of each species. We hypothesize photosynthetic activity to undergo a daily cycle, featuring an inverse correlation between PAR and photoprotective processes. Further, photosynthetic performance is expected to differ between light- and shade-adapted algae, with higher stress tolerances in intertidal species and a greater efficiency at low irradiances in subtidal algae.
