Martin joined Challenger Mortgage Management (“CMM”) following the sale of The Mortgage Alternative (“TMA”), a specialist lending business he had co-founded in 2001. Over the next five years, CMM will grow to be Australia’s largest non-bank lender (>24b of loans under management) and Australia’s 3rd most active RMBS issuer in the Australian market. Throughout this time, Martin ran the specialist lending funding program and had unique access and insight into the business's success as a permanent invitee/member of all critical commercial committees (such as ALCo, Product and Pricing, and Risk and Compliance committees). Following the sale of CMM’s origination business to NAB in 2009, Martin, and his unique knowledge of all areas of the CMM business, and active involvement as Responsible Manager (RM) for 3 Australian Credit Licenses (ACL) and one AFSL, was the sole CMM employee retained by Challenger to discharge its ongoing Trust Manager and Servicer obligations on the $14b of securitised mortgages it retained. While Martin maintained oversight of the run-off $14b CMM portfolio throughout his time at Challenger, from 2010 onwards, he increasingly focused on building out Challengers’ ABS investments and grew its ABS portfolio from < 2 billion dollars to around 7 billion by 2022. Throughout this time, rather than simply buying publicly available RMBS, he built long-term strategic relationships with most of Australia’s leading non-bank lenders. Developing innovative and bespoke funding solutions that help expand their product sets and/or grow their business, including: • Portfolio Acquisitions funding (Senior and/or Mezzanine Funding); • CDS; • Warehouse Funding (Senior and/or Mezzanine Funding); • Private Placements ; • Bilateral Securitisations ; • Whole Loan Sale (loan purchases at a premium) and; • Revolving credit facilities.
