I was an Additive Manufacturing Engineer working on all of the Stratasys FDM and Polyjet 3D printers. This is from installation of new systems, including training of the operators, to servicing and repair when required. It was an interesting role in the aspect of the subtleties of 3D printing and customer management and has kept me at the forefront of the current technologies and requirements of customers. The training of customers includes demonstrating the full operation of the machine, health and safety and customer servicing procedures. This typically includes Power Point presentations to both higher level management and operators.Repairs require a logical approach eliminating possible causes step by step to ascertain the real cause of the problem before implementing procedures for the repair. This can be simple modular replacement or complex board and/or software fixes either over the phone or onsite.

I was a Project Manager for Materialise UK which was a role developed over 4 years. The role involved the development and then management of key UK customers from a solution selling perspective, using the unique materials / processes Materialise had to offer. The Customer Accounts ranged from 5K to 500K per annum, including plastic prototyping customers in the Automotive, Product development and Architectural industries. From my role as Project Manager, I gained experience in running large projects. This included design for manufacturing and material selection, running the project via prototyping or injection moulding and delivery to the customer or end user. The role included 8 months training in Leuven, Belgium, where I gained extensive knowledge of the materials and processes and gained interpersonal skills, communicating with production, not to mention meeting the Mrs . The quoting process was intranet based and directly linked to production. The larger projects usually involved a face to face meeting with the customer outlining what was required from a technical point of view, available lead-times and budgets. This involved interaction with engineers, management and buyers and then liaising with production to deliver the project on time and in budget.I was then promoted to Account Manager for 1-2 years while continuing to project manage key accounts but then focusing on maximising sales from the customers inherited. This ranged from art customers to large Automotive where I developed a specific customer from 70K pa to over 750K pa.

    • TIMKEN
      • Jul 2004 - Aug 2005

As part of my sandwich degree I worked a year on placement for Timken Alloy Steel as a Process Improvement Engineer. My job entailed the investigation into the improvement and management of the condition of the working mandrels used in the hot steel rolling process. This involved the development of many skills including communication, presentation, working to deadlines and the development of teamwork between the management and the shop floor staff. During my placement I had the opportunity to travel to Timken headquarters; in a technical exchange between the two companies to discuss many issues. This involved outlining problems and potential solutions to both management and the shop floor staff in PowerPoint presentations and video conferencing between the Desford plant and The Timken Company
