Cool Places is a digital and print publishing business that celebrates Britain as a travel destination – promoting the very best independently owned places to stay in the UK – special places that you would recommend to friends – alongside lots of other great, up-the-minute content: the best pubs and restaurants, cool shops and other local businesses, as well as great walks and all kinds of stuff to see and do. I co-founded the company in the mid-1980s and helped to grow the business to become one of the world's major travel brands. We sold the company to Pearson in 2002 and I continued to work there as publisher until the end of 2009, when I left to pursue other interests – both in travel and elsewhere. I continue to write for Rough Guides in print and online but otherwise have no connection with the business.
