NCVER's mission is to be Australia's leading provider of high-quality, independent information on vocational education and training to governments, the education sector, industry, and the community. I have worked in four areas of NCVER: Surveys, Statistical Standards, VET Data Strategy Team and Policy Support Unit. Responsibilities: Quantitative and qualitative research, project management, development and maintenance of data standards, information requests. Significant accomplishments: Development of regional workforce plans for the Outer Adelaide Region while on secondment to RDA(2012/13) I played a pivotal role in the coordination, oversight and management of the suite of projects forming the national VET data strategy. Specific example: Data sharing protocols project completed on time and within budget, signed of by Ministers November 2010. I write quickly and intelligibly about often complex, technical matters. For example - new Data sharing protocols for the VET sector (2010); NCVER's submission to Commonwealth Govt's VET data strategy (2008); Paper on inclusion of people 75 yrs and over in the Student Outcomes Survey (2006). Quantitative research: interrogation of large and complex datasets using SAS statistical package. Specific examples. wrote SAS program to automate population of mailing lists for the Student Outcomes Survey. Qualitative research - cognitive interviewing for new RPL question for 2008

Strategic Analysis and Evaluation Group; The role of Strategic Analysis and Evaluation Group was to support the policy and programme areas within the Department with accurate and up-to-the-minute data analysis and evaluation. I specialised in issues relating to young peoples' transition from education to work. My key tasks were to manage the Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) Student Destination Survey, assist with research projects, and prepare Ministerial briefings and data requests. Significant accomplishments: Undertook a review of the SWL Student Destination Survey for the Department (who inherited it from another agency), completing my report with recommendations and costings within the specified timeframe and budget. Designed the on-line questionnaire first used on the 2004 SWL Student Destination Survey and liaised with IT to make ready the on-line reporting facility. Results of the 2003, 2004 and 2005 SWL Destination Surveys published on the Department's website Improved response rates to the SWL Student Destination Survey during my time as the project manager. Highly commended by the Minister's Office for my briefings on ABS Labour Force estimates (released monthly), and my brief on education and labour force participation in the NSW Hunter Valley.
