      As a trainer, I was asked to train all parts for the Cert III Mines rescue. The training was delivered to new candidates as well as refresher training to trained personnel. This means the training would have to be sculpted to fit its target audience. I find the training very satisfying; this enables me to pass on not just the core knowledge associated with the subject but also useful tips learnt from the many years spent as a fire fighter. This has taken me to many Clients including Rio Tinto sites and Newcrest, as well as Perth based training at our own training centre

      As an ESO I was responsible for attending all fire, medical and other emergencies on site and in the surrounding local area. As well as this I have been assisting and training the volunteer Emergency Response team with their ongoing competences and skill set, training them towards their Cert III in Mines Rescue. When on duty I am the first response for the site and local community. As part of my duties I assist in the running of the medical centre on site: this caters for all immediate first aid and if needed subsequent transfer to hospital. The signing off of rescue plans for confined space working as well as working from height forms a large part of our daily routine as well as KPI’s.

      As an ESOS I was responsible for the direct supervision of a team of 40 personnel. This involved coordinating the ongoing training and development of the personnel under me. We were responsible for the emergency management for the entire Roy Hill project: from the mine and its construction to the port facility when it is constructed as well as 340km of rail construction.       Prison Officer (Dept. of Corrective Services) As a prison Officer I was responsible for the security and management of maximum security prisoners as well as prisoners under protection. I was picked to work in a special unit of the prison that dealt with the habitual rule breakers as well as prisoners requiring special protection.       Leading Fire fighter (Coordinator) Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service covered both rural and city areas. I spent my entire career working in Cambridge city. It is the busiest station in the service with over 4500 calls per year when I served there. Incidents ranged from domestic fires; commercial fires, road accidents, general rescues, incidents involving hazardous materials, confined spaces and rescues from heights. I served as a Leading Fire Fighter on a watch of 18 personnel. As a Leading Fire Fighter I was in charge of appliances and took charge at incidents. This required a working knowledge of computers. We had a great deal of contact with the public and had to be able to liaise with them routinely and under very emotional and difficult circumstances.
