      • Initial Attack – our main goal in this situation is to contain the fire. When dispatched, we either fly by helicopter or drive to the fire depending on its location. We then assess the level of the fire and its behavior leading to establishing the LACES (look outs, anchor points, communications, escape routes and safety zones). Our team now sets up pumps and starts extinguishing the flanks of the fire while assisting in calling in the helicopters and airplanes to drop water or retardant onto the head of the fire until it is manageable from the ground. • Sustained Action – our main goal in this situation is to completely extinguish the fire. This is done after the initial attack and requires us to establish a good water source (often using bladders and relay systems), and then douse any flames and hot spots we come across. This is called the mop up phase. We then continue with the gridding phase where, as a team, cover the entire ground to find any left over hot spots and smoke. We then proceed to the last phase, where we take down all pump sites and roll all hoses used. Show less

      • Confined space entries – my title required numerous confined space entries with a variety of scenarios that express working in restraint areas. Some examples would be manhole entries, lift stations, pipe crawling and crawl spaces. • Trenching work – as an infrastructure technician we are often called upon to enter trenches to complete our work. A few tasks that demonstrate my trenching duties are pipe and water main breaks repairs, as well as storm adapt-a-valves installation. • Confined space entries – my title required numerous confined space entries with a variety of scenarios that express working in restraint areas.
