University Module Demonstrator / Lecturer
-
Sep 2016 - Jun 2017
I delivered a compulsory unit to first year Chemistry students at the University of Bristol, which focused around communication in science and included topics such as giving effective presentations, the scientific method, and how to most effectively work as a team towards a common goal. This was a paid role that involved 4 hours of work per week, split equally into planning and the delivery of the material. This was a pilot scheme in the department, giving us the chance to give feedback to the course director on how we could improve the course and learning outcomes. Show less

Summer Research Intern
-
Jul 2016 - Sep 2016
The position was competitively funded by the EU, with a stipend that covered all research costs and living expenses for the 10 week duration of the internship. I was based in Dr Ivo Stary's group, working on the synthesis of novel, functional organic molecules named 'helicenes'. The work involved extensive use of inert-atmosphere techniques, characterisation with NMR, GC-MS, HPLC and IR, in addition to elemental analysis. I was the only native English speaker in the lab, and my ability to integrate myself seamlessly and effectively into the team was highly praised by my supervisor. Show less
