In my current role, I oversee the employment program at the Region of Waterloo. In this position I support 23 staff in 3 roles to deliver timely and effective employment supports to job seekers and employers. This creative group of individuals work daily to improve accessibility and the impacts of their services. My job is to help them engage stakeholders from across the department to integrate services and remove barriers, I facilitate the development of systems that improve access for clients and workflow for staff.

Due to a vacancy I was tapped to fill in a temporary position supporting the learning specialists, appeals officer and user support staff. Together we worked to expand the scope of this service area to support all divisions in the Community Services Department. This included offering training support to new and existing staff in Housing, Children's and Employment and Income Supports. This service area provided essential training and communication related to changes in policy and legislation providing integrity to the essential services of the department. My role was to engage with stakeholders and work with all levels of staff in the organization to determine and prioritize needs and to allocate resources to meet these needs.

In this role I was lucky enough support a new team at the launch of the integrated services in the Community Services Department. This team included representation from Ontario Works Caseworkers, Housing Access Coordinators, Employment Services and Child Care Subsidy Worker as well as administrative support staff. Together we worked to find opportunities for service coordination, solving problems and removing barriers for clients accessing services. I focused on building a supportive team through a time of significant change.
