During my internship at Hospital Clínico de San Carlos, I worked in the haematology department carrying out the tasks required to complete my Final Degree Project called “Study of mutations and SNPs in GFI1B gene in myeloid malignancies” and I developed skills in basic molecular biology techniques. Some of the methodologies employed were DNA extraction by salting out or phenol/Chloroform, measure of concentration using Nanodrop 1000 spectrophotometer, PCR amplification and purification of the products obtained, Sanger sequencing via capillary electrophoresis using 3130xl Genetic Analyzer and examination of results with software Sequencher. In that period, I learned how to manage my own work-load in order to complete my project, always following the main safety standards and protocols that are performed in a hospital especially while handling human samples.
