The main focus of my research was the development of a complex microbial biofilm model that resembled healthy dental plaque. I studied both bacterial ecology (qPCR, DGGE and 16S rDNA sequencing) and phenotypes (acid production assays and protease activity assays) of the biofilms. I used the biofilm model to evaluate the role of Candida albicans in oral biofilms, to reveal the effect of the sugar alcohol erythritol on gingivitis biofilms and I discovered a compound that completely abolishes… Show more The main focus of my research was the development of a complex microbial biofilm model that resembled healthy dental plaque.
