      At the age of 14, I got my first job at the Locavore Bar and Grill. I started out as a dishwasher and worked my way up through the business, and eventually seated myself as senior prep/line cook. Before I started this adventure with the Locavore I had no skills or prior knowledge about the restaurant, and kitchen industry. From 2017-to 2021 I improved my skills and understanding of the business from great mentors. The skills I learned include: understanding of kitchen safety, teamwork, humour, attention to detail, working through long hours, adaptability, performance under stress, understanding of mistakes, and increased productivity. The business is located in Squamish, BC in an area called the "Farm". The Locavore offers one of the best outdoor spaces in Squamish and has great locally sourced food.       In April 2019, I became an independent groundskeeper for "The Garibaldi Storage Company"(https://www.garibaldistorage.com/). I worked throughout the Spring and Summer. I took pride in Garibaldi Storage Company trusting me with this opportunity. My role as their groundskeeper was ensuring their properties were kept visually neat. I would sweep, pick up, and trim unwanted items on the land. It was a simple task and did not require much previous skill. The job only needed five to ten hours of labour, which suited my schedule as I was already working a 20+ hour a week part-time job. What are the takeaways? I did not enjoy this type of work because it lacked diversity and challenge. Positively though, I learned what the feeling of working for myself was like, aspects of running my own business like sending an invoice to a company, ethics, basic level of managing finances, and communication with a company.

      From January to March of 2020, I got the opportunity to work as a food runner for the pub "The Shady Tree"(http://shadytreepub.com/). Sadly my job ended fast as COVID-19 began to pick up drastically in March, and all pubs were required to shut down until further notice. After COVID-19 took over, The Shady Tree owners decided that it was time to turn off the lights for good and shut down the business. For the time I was there, I had made it my mission to adapt and learn as much about the front of housework as I only had spent time in the back of housework. Since I am very confident, picking up food and running was quite a breeze and became an enjoyable job. My plan for the future was to work my way up to a service position. The skills I learned during the two months were: efficiency, personality, communication, confidence, and organization.

      In October of 2019, I was involved with the Canadian Government and the federal election. I was hired to be a Registration Officer or Reg. O for short. The Job was a one-day experience, that lasted 12 hours long, plus an extra 4 hours of training. The expectation of the Reg. O was to direct electors to their polling station. Most went without a hitch, but in some cases, people were at the wrong polling station. In this case, I would have to look up their address and direct them to the correct part of town. Some situations involved not enough identification, not a BC resident, or address had changed. In the case of an address change, I would have to re-write a new voter ID card, for the elector. Since I wasn't able to vote because I was a minor, the most I could do was work for the election. This opportunity opened me up to the understanding of new skills like keeping a neutral bias, not disclosing personal information, dealing with people and their needs, staying focused and productive through long hours, and being controlled and critical during fast work.       In July 2019, I got the opportunity through Capilano University to be a cultural assistant to fifty excellent Japanese students from the Koto Ku Tokyo area. It was a life-changing experience for me. I have never travelled outside North America, so this was my first experience with a completely new culture. I was most definitely culture-shocked in the first days, but as my confidence grew with the kids, so made our friendship. They explained their deep culture and their family morals. The kids' English language skills were terrific; I almost felt embarrassed that some might even be better than me. In addition, the kids taught me the skill of work ethic. My job as the cultural assistant was to be their camp counsellor. I had a group of about seven that I watched over. We also spent time in their English classes and helped bring understanding to the English language. Skills I learned: leadership, crowd control, patience, and communication.
