Mark is simply the best Product Manager I've worked with in software development projects. He demonstrated time and time again his ability to understand complex problems and develop comprehensive, end-to-end plans to address them. Mark is able to interact seamlessly with literally every department in the company, including Sales, Legal, Finance, Taxes/Accounting, Operations, Engineering and Market. In every project we worked together, he was able to combine business goals, customer expectations and constraints to propose development plans that would deliver concrete progress while optimizing available economical and human resources. I'm looking forward to keep working with Mark in new projects!

As the Director of Product Development and Market Strategy, I led creative software engineering teams in multiple locations through the product development lifecycle (PDLC) of Convergys' Real-time Campaign Management Solution (CMS).♦ Product DevelopmentUtilizing Agile and Lean principles I ensured the software development lifecycle (SDLC) was understood and efficiently followed by software and test engineering, DBA, tech documentation and training teams. I delivered robust and scalable product suites that delight and help customers achieve their digital marketing objectives.♦ Market StrategyI created epics to establish the roadmap; developed marketing collateral; defined the strategy, pricing and executed the plan to roll-out/launched 5 releases; conducted sales and launch training; assisted with RFI/RFP; and evangelized product value to analysts and customers through presentations and demonstrations.♦ Product descriptionCampaign Management Solution (CMS) combines analytics and marketing automation to enable businesses to launch interactive real-time context rich campaigns. It was powered by CVG's market-proven Telco-grade real-time decisioning engine – a business rules, workflow and analytics platform.Applying rules to empowered customer’s behavior (events), preferences and needs, enabled CVG's clients to tailor a more personalized experience that drove higher uptake on offers, increased retention and nurtured a deeper understanding of the customer journey for future interactions.UI's were built using Grails, run-time with Java, executed on Linux, utilized Oracle or PostgreSQL RDBMS. Oracle's Berkeley aided real-time performance and was highly available (HA). Integrated with Nagios to monitor and communicate alerts. BIRT was used for reporting or customer could use their own BI tools. We were in the process of using Kafka, Spark and Hadoop to interact with big data and interaction history to further expand CMS's data-driven campaign abilities. This started as a career empowering 2-year sabbatical from R&D to initiate and launch a product component and solution from a Product Management position.☛ Goal – increase my knowledge and exposure to more facets of the product life cycle beyond research, development, support, project management, program management and test. Assignments:♦ Campaign Management I defined and executed a strategy to position and launch a Campaign Management Solution (CMS) utilizing CVG’s real-time Dynamic Decisioning Solution as a digital marketing campaign execution engine. CMS utilized business rules, workflow and recommendation engines to enable marketing teams to quickly create personalized promotions that engage customers to stimulate usage and loyalty; increasing the share of wallet. UI's were built using Grails, run-time with Java, and it ran on Linux. I led using Agile principles, the completion of 3 releases within budget and on time that were deployed into production.♦ Business Analytics and Reporting I defined, established, positioned and launched business analytic products/services for Convergys’s Intelligent Voice Portal On-Demand Cloud platform and Customer Premises solutions. This included event based notification, analytic based services, and interactive reporting using IBM's Cognos. This ran on Linux and storage utilized Oracle RDBMS. Show less

Convergys acquired Intervoice on 4 Sept 2008.I directed distributed product development teams through 1 major and at least one minor release per year of the flagship Intelligent Voice Portal and Intelligent Self-Service product suites. This was available as a customer premises or On-demand cloud offering.I also directed the test engineering, technical documentation and customer training development teams for IVP.I added a "developer zone" to allow customers to play in a sandbox with use case recipes that were defined in a "cookbook" for step by step learning of IVP's Interaction Composer - an Eclipse based IDE that enables the development of elegant markup based voice, data and call control based applications. See link to learn more. The customer interaction flow was designed by the customer or professional services via a UI developed by my team in Eclipse. The platform ran on Windows and was developed in Java with some C++ and utilized Oracle or Sybase RDBMS for data storage. Show less

Products developed and released from within my group for the flagship Intelligent Voice Portal (IVP) platform:♦ Server-side run-time engines - VoiceXML (VXML), CCXML (Call Control Markup Language), SipServlet, SCXML (State Chart eXtensible Markup Language), MRCP (Media Resource Control Protocol to interface to ASR and TTS vendors), Data Communication Gateway and Alert Notification Gateway.♦ Graphical application solution authoring tools that are Eclipse plug-ins. These tools created applications that utilize W3C's SCXML specification to orchestrate elegant and effective voice and DTMF based self-service applications. It has vast capabilities to graphically layout call flows, data flows, and notifications to enable efficient self-service inbound and outbound Interactive Voice Portal applications.♦ OAMP - administrative UI that provides health monitoring, alerts, SNMP traps and alarms.♦ Reporting - operational reports are scheduled to be delivered or run ad hoc.♦ The platform ran on Windows and was developed in Java with some C++ and utilized Oracle or Sybase RDBMS for data storage. I coordinated as a Program Manager between Microsoft (MS), Intel-Dialogic and Intervoice development teams the release of Intervoice’s 1.0 “TIM” (telephony interface manager) for MS Speech Application Language Tags (SALT) platform – later called Microsoft Speech Server and then Microsoft Speech Platform. The TIM ran on Intervoice's HAL (hardware abstraction layer) developed for its IVP solution.

R&D developed and released several telephony board versions, the hardware abstraction layer (HAL) and embedded software that ran on these boards.I managed the team that rearchitected the HAL layer to work with Dialogic's telephony board to reduce cost and complexity of our releases of voice portal. This was a significant endeavor that required new programming languages and change in culture. I lead the team to add MRPC, a W3C standard, to interface between Intervoice's VoiceXML browser and multiple voice recognition and text to speech (TTS) vendors. This greatly simplified and reduced code volume and enable us to develop a simulator to test new vendors implementations of MRCP for compatibility. Show less
