I was fortunate to be instructed by Mark in a footwear design course at the Academy of Art. A big thing I really appreciated about how he lead his class is how genuine he was with us. He went beyond in providing more than what was prescribed of him in terms of reference materials to supply us, through concrete actions such as that I really felt he was putting our learning experience first. We were encouraged to go as far and wild as we can with our design concepts and he would always supply the industry knowledge and experience on construction and if needed how can we reel the concept back into reality without losing the essence. Another thing that I thought was really stand out was the extra time he would put in for individual feedback to anyone who needed it. This would often go past class time but he was always patient, candid, and equally in-depth with anyone that was trying to progress their project. Extremely personable and very knowledgeable about the footwear industry and design, I am grateful for the time he put in for our class and will definitely keep in touch, thank you Mark!

• Revamped the Kids line for 2016-2017 to include more technically-considered designs and features unique to Kids' needs (e.g. designed an industry-first softshell rain boot with athletic tooling based off of considerations for travel and playground versatility; conducted field studies and interviews with families in collaboration with Avid4Adventure Camp in Boulder, CO) • Collaborated with The North Face Ultrarunner, Tim Olson, to create The North Face’s most versatile trail running shoe for S18. Conducted usability tests with Tim Olson and other The North Face athletes to improve or validate product design. • Pushed The North Face design convention through a minimal yet supportive warm-weather, amphibious shoe (Litewave Flow), versatile enough to wear through water excursions. Although initially designed for the youth category, the VP of Footwear requested it to be taken up into the global adult line. Debut season (S17) amassed over 45k in bookings and close to an average 5-star consumer rating. • Active proponent in the footwear fit and testing process, working hand-in-hand with developers and applying biomechanics principles learned through sessions with Dr. Geoffrey Gray of Heeluxe • Conducted product line audits and market research to propose process improvements and new product concepts • Sourced and curated comprehensive material palettes for assigned projects Show less

I enjoy opportunities to "give back"/teach aspiring students within my profession. Partnered up with Founder/President of DZR Shoes to co-teach the first footwear design class (BFA level) at the Academy of Art University, School of Industrial Design. The intent was to emulate a typical footwear design department's creative/development process, from analyzing market opportunities to tech pack/sampling. Along with in-class instruction (reference samples, videos, tutorials, working on lasts, etc.), we had them visit DZR Shoes HQ, go on a 'shopping' trip in the city, and had two industry professionals guest lecture.
