Mark Morfopoulos was employed by our firm from about March 17, 2008 until March 17, 2010. Prior to that time, he worked for us as a contract attorney though an agency. It was on the basis of the work he did for us as a contract attorney that we asked him to join our staff. We are a law firm concentrating on transactional matters for business and commercial real estate clients. Retail real estate is a core industry served by us and, with the general economic decline, retail real estate activity dropped off precipitously and we reluctantly needed to reduce our staff size. Mark is probably the most tenacious, dedicated, loyal, and thorough attorney we have ever employed. Reliability and attention to detail are only two of his hallmark traits. He worked directly with some of our clients, as well as with our own lead attorneys. He handled many leases of all sizes and degrees of complexity. He performed many, many due diligence reviews and waded through an enormous number of small, medium, and especially large size title work files. Mark was of great assistance to many of our clients, some of whom are unschooled in real estate matters, but many of whom are experienced in-house counsel at significant size companies. Mark earned our confidence in putting him directly in contact with even our most important clients. One of the early, non-client challenges we presented to Mark was that he needed to gain admission to the New Jersey Bar, and that can only be done by passing our state’s Bar Exam. Despite having last seen a Bar Exam about 24 years earlier, he persisted, studied, and studied some more so that he could pass that exam, as he did. All of this was done outside of his working hours.. Lastly, it should not go unsaid that Mark was a very pleasant colleague to all at our firm, attorney and support staff alike. To us, that was a tremendous benefit and we miss seeing him every day.
