Mark is a workaholic in the good sense of the word. Great colleague to work with, he takes his job very seriously. His technical skills and flexibility impressed me. The software he helped create, works extremely well, is easy to adjust and is very friendly for the technical maintenance guys. To get the job done, he is the one you should have on your team!

For KPN network I had to migrate over 30 applications in 3 envirronments (mostly Java) from old Linux machines to KPN managed kubernetes clusters. I developed the open source kreate framework (https://github.com/MarkHooijkaas/kreate-kube) to ease the standardisation over all these applications. As most experienced Linux user I also got the informal lead in maintaining that Linux infrastructure since there were no Linux sysadmins. This included several datacenter and network migrations. I worked mostly with kubernetes, kubectl, kustomize, rancher, docker, bash, python, docker, ssh, git, Jenkins Show less

At ODCN I worked in a team that provisioned Kubernetes clusters for government organisations in the Netherlands. The provisioning and upgrades were fully automated using Ansible+Python and the RedHat Openshift install and maintenance playbooks. The provisioned clusters were fully managed by our team with Elastic+filebeat+Kibana for logging, GitLab+Nexus+Harbor+Helm for CI/CD for customers and provisioning, Fluentd+Telegraf+InfluxDB+Grafana for monitoring, keycloak+openldap+haproxy+nfs+s3+velero for general infrastructure. Although for operational management we needed to be acquainted with all technology, my primary focus was on Kubernetes (OpenShift 3.11 and 4.3), Ansible, Python (2.7 and migration to 3.6), Linux (Redhat 7 and RHCOS), NFS Show less

    • Java ESB and BPM consultant and specialist
      • Dec 2006 - Mar 2018

At DUO I functioned as general consultant on the introduction and use of ESB and BPM technologies. I developed the reference architecture for the ESB project. I consult for what purpose these technologies should and should not be used, what to expect on advantages and problems, depending how the ESB and BPM technologies are used. After that I worked as specialist for Integration Technologies in general, including IBM MQ, Cordys ESB, and a variety of platforms. During this assignment I have become an expert on the Cordys technology used. I sometimes do some highly technical Java development, realizing a Cordys As400Connector and an (open source) Cordys RelayConnector and HttpConnector. Show less

The province of Groningen participated in a Proof of Concept on ESB (and BPM) technologies. The province of Groningen decided to focus on open source ESB technology. As a consultant I advised on general ESB issues, open source philosophy, and selected the open source technology to be used in the Proof of Concept (Apache ServiceMix). I also participated in some hands-on experiments and knowledge sharing. The province of Groningen participated in a Proof of Concept on ESB (and BPM) technologies. As original architect of the Order Fulfillment Manager for KPN's Digitenne and InternetPlusBellen I was asked to help with some major changes, and for knowledge transfer to an offshoring team. It was nice to see a system I designed and partly built 3 years ago still functioning as planned. The largest Dutch postal and logistics company, TPG, had an Intranet and Extranet Portal site for the top 1500 employees worldwide. This website was based using C#, ASP.NET, XML and XSLT, but had mayor architectural and operational problems, together with a long overdue wish list of new functionalities. I took over the architecture and responsibility for this website and solved the urgent problems, implemented a new part for a select subgroup, and transferred the website to a new news provider. Next I was involved to migrating the website to the new corporate wide Tridion Content Management implementation, including designing and developing the authentication and authorization mechanism.
