  I’m responsible for the management of the Recreation & Open Space Capital Works Program including the development and maintenance of project management systems and the overall coordination of projects.In conjunction with internal and external stakeholders, I develop the strategic directions and policies for Recreation & Open Space Planning Unit in the area of capital works and support systems and contribute to the development of broader planning issues across Yarra.The above is achieved by negotiating and maintaining responsive and professional relationships with a range of relevant internal and external clients, developers and various interest groups and individuals from the broader community.As a representative of Yarra’s Recreation and Open Space Branch, I regularly conduct guest lectures to university and high school students in aspects of landscape management, cultural heritage and recreation. These lectures have included complex concepts in Site Engineering at the University of Melbourne for Master’s program landscape architecture. The lectures concerned the physical and social contexts of a park in which they were developing landscape plans; the role included tutoring and assessment tasks.I regularly participate in industry conferences and workshops in areas touched by our open space network; for example: bicycle network, playgrounds, early years’ education and sustainability.

It also gave me an insight into the management of cultural heritage on Parks Victoria controlled land, including responses to fire and other risks.My role included Acting Executive Officer, Yarra Bend Trust which oversaw the management and operation of Yarra Bend Park and Studley Park.

  I was responsible for the day-to-day Open Space contract operations for the City of Melbourne. Spotless’ contract to the City of Melbourne was based upon Total Asset Management of Council’s open space network and facilities. I would oversee and co-ordinate all works and supervise park maintenance staff and contractors, to ensure high standards and safe work practices. I was accountable to Spotless for the total financial performance of the contract.In addition to my responsibilities to the City of Melbourne, I was fortunate to manage the maintenance contracts for a number of Melbourne’s iconic sites including: Victoria Park for Collingwood Football Club; Olympic Park for Melbourne & Olympic Park Trust; and the Sidney Myer Music Bowl for Victorian Arts Centre Trust.
