Mark is a resourceful and well-connected event professional who understands what is required for success from the planning and operational perspective. Detailed in both preparation and documentation he demonstrates a commitment to achieving his goals. Even though we work in different markets, each time that business brings us to the same city we make a point of connecting and I have enjoyed the many opportunities to share and learn from each other.

I have had the pleasure of working directly with Mark. My company (iCohere) was looking to partner with Mark's group at Experient on a virtual conference for the government. From the start it was apparent that Mark commanded the respect of his employees and clients. Through his leadership we were able to quickly arrange a meeting with a key client and make a joint presentation. Since then, Mark and I have stayed in touch, and discussed a wide variety of partnership options. I always value these discussions and his insights, his ability to link business concepts together as we search for ways to create value for our clients.

A return to the events industry was in order and within the technology niche I was able to combine my experience as a planner with my interest in the latest tech. Having been a planner gave me a deep understanding my customers. To this point my career had been very linear, which was about to change. In sweetgreen I found a brand in which I first fell in love with its product and then came to embrace its corporate philosophy. After meeting with the company founders I turned a dream of trying something different into reality. The farm-to-table salad shops that got their start in Washington, D.C. now include locations across the country. As Head Coach I was General Manager of a restaurant, responsible for unit operations including sales, costs, labor, scheduling, and financial analysis. The Head Coach also hires, trains, coaches, and motivates employees to promote professional and internal growth of the entire team.Handling business operations for a restaurant is like putting on a event 7 days a week 365 days a year. So I found my event experience very useful, but I also learned a tremendous amount about daily financial forecasting, ordering perishable product, and scheduling employees for an operation that closes its doors only two days each year. I am proud of building my store into the top grossing and most profitable in the DC market. My transition to Operations Services Manager was underway, but cut short by the company's headquarter relocation to Los Angeles.

My move to Experient was very much a progression from managing contracts to managing an business segment. I took on responsibility for building a new department responsible for Federal services within the company. In this role I learned about strong fiscal planning skills (annual revenue and expense budgeting; 12-month rolling forecasts; reporting actuals and accounting for variances) and continued to develop my staff supervision and client relationship management skills. Client agencies included: Department of Defense (DoD), Veterans Affairs Administration (VA), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Treasury, Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Federal Trade Commission (FTC), Trade and Development Agency (USTDA).

I was recruited to join SEI, a spin-off company of DB, as the eighth employee for the start-up. During this phase of my career I was lucky to learn directly from the person I consider my greatest mentor. Beginning in the role of Deputy Project Director I soon took on contracts management on my own as Project Director. I led the service of multiple contracts providing logistical and IT services to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) / National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). I moved into the private sector with DB. Hired as a Meeting Planner I was promoted to a Senior Conference Manager position and then to Assistant Project Director. All of these roles with the same client, the National Drug Abuse Treatment Clinical Trials Network (NIDA CTN). I provided oversight of day-to-day operations under a logistical and IT services contract. I moved into the private sector with DB. My first job out of college and I stayed in the university setting. I was able to leverage my summer experiences with Conference Services at William & Mary into a professional position at UMD. I contracted, planned, and organized conferences, camps, youth programs, and special events from a facility perspective. I was the primary liaison between external clients and on-campus service providers. My first job out of college and I stayed in the university setting.
