The Common E2 is a cafe and architectural studio situated within the Winkley Conservation area on Old Bethnal Green Road in East London. The Common E2 began it’s life in March 2014 with the transformation of a private artists studio come gallery, into a cafe and dedicated architecture studio called Common Ground Workshop. The Common E2 is a space where creatives in and around Bethnal Green can work, share ideas and engage with the public in a transparent, seamless and integrated way. Visitors to The Common E2 can sit with designers, architects, photographers, artists, performers and other creative teams, and have the opportunity to watch concepts and designs develop in front of them. The design studio is also shared with a co-working space, which benefits from conversation and exchange with the local community. This openness helps to demystify the inner workings of architectural practice and encourage engagement between locals and a variety of small businesses based here. The concept itself is a work in progress where continually inspiring interactions and exchanges that we have with our community take place on a daily basis. The Common E2 & Common Ground Workshop harnesses creative energy through evolving collaborations which work towards ‘building projects and ideas with people at its heart’. Show less
