BJS Biotechnologies are the developers and manufacturers of the xxpress® thermal cycler which provides the world’s fastest and most thermally uniform real-time PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) tests. The technology uses the consumable as a resistive element within an electrical circuit to provide heating, that along with forced air cooling delivers ultra-high speed thermal cycling. The instrument is capable of delivering a full 40 Cycle qPCR experiment in under 10 minutes using very low reagent volumes, leading to a significant cost savings for the end user.

SurePower is a UK start-up company specialising in Power Management technologies. The market for network connection to remote devices has grown much larger with the proliferation of networks, advances in technology and the cost savings available from not having to have engineers physically on-site. A growing and related area is power management where the power being used by the devices attached to the network becomes a critical element both in terms of potential failure and in terms of cost. SurePower are designing a range of products that provide the Customer's network operations centre (NOC) with the means to meter and manage the power consumption of geographically diverse hardware estates. Connection to the remote product from the NOC is available through a variety of different methods i.e. via a spare serial port on an existing router at the remote end, IP, Modem, GPRS or Modbus (industrial manufacturing communications protocol). The management controls enable the remote devices to be powered off for periods when not being utilized i.e. overnight or weekends and the power cycle function allows the remote equipment to be rebooted (solves most communication equipment failures!) therefore reducing the need to send an engineer to site and thereby saving money and providing environmental benefits.
