Kidd Workshop Instructor: This three-course sequence admits 24 application-vetted students for a year of unique studio creative writing workshops. I taught three consecutive classes, each designed to instruct beginning, intermediate, and advanced study in fiction. Each term, students write and workshop original fiction from peers, attend visiting writer lectures, and design and complete a “Line of Inquiry,” a craft-based research paper topically chosen to complement student interest. The first term of instruction provides lectures and exercises in poetry, while the subsequent terms focus on refining student fiction for publication in the Kidd Anthology, an annual compilation of students’ best work. For three seasons, I served as a bartender in a high volume, tourist concession attraction. Prior to serving alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages as a costumed bartender, I was responsible for stocking, sterilization, inventory management, and setup for the massive tourism dinner theater environment. My shifts averaged 10+ hours, 5 days a week, and each performance we served as many as 950 guests (with 4 performances daily). Graduate Teaching Assistant: Working with three different faculty mentors, I co-taught and provided administrative support through Moodle for introductory college English. I met with faculty mentors for three or more hours per week, held office hours for student conferencing, taught fifty-to-eighty percent of the course lectures, and provided comments and grading for assigned essays. In addition to course administration, I taught and graded all of my sections’ Coastal Composition Commons, a parallel online component that required six Digital Badges that emphasize critical writing skills.
