I supported and improved old mine workings in the Erzgebirge (Ore Mountains) region of Germany. As part of our three man project, we sank a shaft into an existing narrow stoped ore drift, widened the drift using jackhammers, installed wall and ceiling steel supports, removed the waste/collpased material, and progressed through the drift to improve ventilation as a means to mitigate radiation from entering above-ground structures.
