In my first decade the emphasis was on providing a high quality in-depth reference and research service to key Embassy contacts, as well as selective dissemination of information. In the last few years the focus has shifted to youth outreach. I led the team responsible for creating the Mae Jemison Science Reading Room in Mamelodi East, and have played a key role in establishing an American Corner at the Es’kia Mphahlele Community Library in central Pretoria—now a top-priority platform for U.S. Government outreach to young African leaders.
