Mark Danderson's approach to medical publishing and sales shaped the way I approach all of my work. Mark is a creative and encyclopedic thinker who can condense and communicate complex information without sacrificing quality or comprehensiveness, a rare talent that I now understand as essential for managing any team. At SAGE Publications, I watched and learned as he quickly designed a product development plan that enriched the sales, marketing, and editorial departments, in part by educating them and in part by directing them with clearly stated goals, constructive criticisms, and a wealth of personal experience that went far beyond mere know-how. He conceptualized new tools for the aforementioned departments and wasted no time realizing them. He helped to strengthen relationships with medical societies and international business partners and he supported executive staff. Perhaps most importantly, he recognized the strengths and weaknesses of his charges and used that insight to the company's advantage. In the midst of that work, he somehow found the time to bring everyone on his team up to speed on the complex world of pharmaceutical regulation and pipeline development. Mark always worked to understand our business from the perspective of our customers: what did they want and why did they want it? By approaching challenges from that perspective, he not only improved sales, he improved the quality of his staff, who understood just how strong and penetrating Mark's intellect and dedication was. It was a sincere honor to work with him at SAGE Publications, and thanks to him I bring a much fuller understanding of commitment and service to my work.
