The Trafalgar club was formed in the autumn of 1983 and held its first meeting in the Trafalgar Room on Trafalgar Day at the Institute of Directors in Pall Mall, London. Initially, the club was called "1983 Committee" but immediately recognised the relevance of changing its name to The Trafalgar Club - especially as the club was primarily concerned to ensure that YMP's continued to have a voice in the affairs of the printing industry following on from the less than encouraging report published by Lord McGregor.Full membership of the club was initially restricted to past National YMP chairmen but, in practice, many former YMP's attend the annual meeting. In the mid 1990's membership of the club was extended to those YMP's who had excelled and been recognised by the award of the Collin's Quaich. This was first awarded in 1979 at the YMP Conference in Peebles, where James Collins presented the award to Paul Taylor.Bob O'Shea became Chairman and Nick Hutton Treasurer, both who remained in position for 30 years, until October 2013.Other inaugural members on that October day in 1983 also included Guthrie Pickering, Ken Pardy Sam Wass, Pat Howitt, Richard Butler, Bob Loach and Simon Tennent.Sincere apologies if I have missed out your name, let me know and I will add it immediately. YMP Immediate Past National Chairman
-
Feb 2011 - Feb 2012
I joined the YMP in 1999 and jumped in with both feet, finding myself on the North West Committee within the first 12 months, becoming the regional secretary in 2003, followed by Regional Chairman for 3 years from 2005. I was also a member of the National Committee from 2005 and remained a member until it's decline in 2012. I became the Vice Chairman in 2008, followed by Chairman in 2010/11, finally holding the position of YMP Immediate Past National Chairman. The YMP was rebranded in September 2011, PPM - however, the National Training weekend was to be it's very last organised event. The YMP has been going since 1929, the first Chairman being Eric Annandale, and I feel privileged to be among the long list of distinguished past Chairmen.
