Signly was co-founded by Mark Applin, and Deafax, a charity committed to transforming the lives of deaf people through technology. Using Signly browser extension, organisations can now easily add sign language to any webpage. Users click the extension to request translation of a page. Signly serves up pre-recorded, broadcast quality signed content, signed by real people, in-browser. The extension keeps the sign language and text synced. Signly allows Deaf customers to self-serve, making access to sign language easy – an integrated part of the way an organisation does business. Users choose the best channel for them to access sign language. Organisations now have more ways to fulfil their passion for inclusion, removing barriers so Deaf customers get the same level of service as everyone else. Signly Print Sign language is the preferred language for many deaf people, and the Signly Print app, now in use at the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre and Network Rail, delivers smart signed content directly to the user’s device. The user simply opens the app and points it at a Signly logo to play the relevant video. Sign language interpreters appear via the app, as if the visitor had brought their own interpreter along in their pocket. At the Museum, Signly users can for example, aim their smartphone at the Signly label positioned near Roald Dahl’s writing chair to get signed content about the exacting daily routine he followed to create his famous tales. Users can enjoy the venue without having to make their ‘special needs’ known. Show less
