Mar 2015 - Jul 2018
I commenced my PhD studies at the ADRI in early 2015, where I am further investigating aberrant microRNA expression in MPM. Specifically, I have examined the mechanisms which lead to microRNA downregulation in MPM and have explored the functional significance of downregulated microRNAs in mechanisms of drug resistance.Skills: Basic cell culture, microRNA/siRNA and plasmid transfection, DNA and RNA isolation techniques, RT-qPCR, digital droplet PCR (ddPCR), PCR, chromatin immunoprecipitation assays (ChIP), western blotting, plasmid cloning, flow-cytometry/cell cycle analysis, epigenetic analysis (treatment with methylation and histone acetylation inhibitors), Tali apoptosis assays, time-management, problem-solving, team-work, assistance with the supervision and mentorship of summer and honours students (including main supervision to a summer student under a project relating to the role of microRNAs in drug resistance). 2012 - 2015
I commenced work at the Asbestos Diseases Research Institute (ADRI) in February 2012 as a research assistant, where I was been involved in a multitude of projects focused on exploring the function of downregulated tumour suppressor microRNAs in mesothelioma and examining the anti-tumour effects of restoring their expression. Key Duties, Responsibilities and Achievements: • Laboratory Management: Ordering and stock control. • Completion of experiments for a variety of projects investigating tumour suppressor microRNA functionality in MPM. Skills: Basic cell culture, microRNA/siRNA transfection, DNA and RNA isolation techniques, RT-qPCR, Western Blotting. Show less
