I truly enjoy this job, as not only is it wonderful to work alongside my mother but it also provides me with a lot of personal interaction with clients and event guests, which is so important to me. • May 2016 - Aug 2017

      • Rotated through sales, management, laundry, housekeeping, breakfast, maintenance, and front desk positions during a 150-hour internship before being offered a regular part-time position • Took initiative in tasks such as making the sweets shop better organized and more aesthetically appealing • Work directly with guests from check in to check out to provide recommendations, handle questions and complaints, and contribute to an overall positive experience Through my initial experience rotating through departments as an intern, I learned first-hand the value of every employee and department working together as a cohesive unit. While it may be easy to think of one area or work as less important, they all function as puzzle pieces and there could be no finished product without every single one. Without housekeeping there are no rooms for the front desk to sell; without laundry there are no rooms for housekeeping to make; etc. And if every department and manager does not realize this to be true, this can result in friction and a lack of trust and fluidity in the hotel overall. It is also important to recognize and celebrate diversity within the workplace. While I have gained many experiences and learned a lot about the hotel industry during my time at Hampton, this has been one of my most unique and impactful insights. Show less
