Using a best-practice grading rubric from ChangeLab Solutions, I worked for the Policy Evaluation Tracking System (PETS) team to grade municipal codes on the strength of their outdoor secondhand smoke policies, and multi-unit housing smoke free policies. The data collected is used widely by the California Department of Public Health Tobacco Control Program, and their competitive grantees. Further, it informs decisions made by local agencies to bring forth proposals for stronger language to amend their policies in their municipalities, effectively creating policies that are more protective of the health of their constituents.
