Marie was simultaneously an assistant and a colleague during the last four year's of my presidency at ISU. Passionately dedicated to the success of the University and its students, she was often a drafting partner on critical correspondence, a language counselor on communications in French, and a careful proof reader of documents in both French and English. Shouldering substantial responsibilities for support of the Board of Trustees, she excelled in the timely and accurate preparation of Board reports and read-ahead materials. A paragon of discretion, she justified the trust placed in her to maintain confidence about matters ranging from personnel issues to Board debates. She always exhibited the moral courage to raise with me issues of concern of which she became aware, managing to maintain a professional and diplomatic approach. This capacity was extraordinarily valuable since some members of our very culturally diverse staff were reluctant to raise their concerns directly with people in authority. Marie was an extraordinary asset to me and the University. I would gladly work with her again.
