      Using gold standard and emerging imaging technologies, I explored during the course of my PhD work the impact of different treatments on tumor metabolism in vivo. During this project, I clearly identified the limits of in vitro studies to reflect the in vivo context and highlighted the predominant role of local environment to shape tumor profile in vivo. Beyond the role of the physiological environment, the impact of host cell and the metabolic interplay between host cells and cancer cells represent a new field of research that I wanted to further investigate. Exploiting my knowledge in metabolic profiling obtained during my PhD, my research project was to assess the impact of immunotherapy on tumor metabolism using molecular imaging. I was also responsible for the in house implementation of hyperpolarization technology, the daily evaluation of the hyperpolarization system and the strategy development of the technology in various fields of research such as oncology, inflammation and neurology.

      PhD Student at Biomedical Magnetic Resonance Unit (REMA), Louvain Drug Research Institute (LDRI), Université catholique de Louvain (UCL)During my PhD thesis, I worked on on a multi-modality imaging project to characterize the tumor metabolism and its pharmacological modulations.I designed a multi-modality imaging project to identify metabolic signature inside solid tumors based on metabolic modulations. Various technologies, including PET, MRI, MRS and EPR, were used to study the impact of Dichloroacetate treatment and hypoxia in tumor models presenting different metabolic profiles. The current study established a metabolic discrepancy between in vitro and in vivo conditions. While tumor cell lines presented distinct behaviors according to their metabolic profiles, the tumors models presented similar metabolic patterns in vivo. The absence of true correlation between in vitro and in vivo tumor models suggested the key role of local microenvironment and host cells to shape tumor features.
