21.9.2023-14.1.2024Uncared-for sites, secondary architecture - such as pavement edges, façade ledges and staircases - and non-competitive leisure activities are the focus of the artistic exploration of Maruša Sagadin's installation "Luv Birds in Toten Winkeln". These places are her starting point to encourage reflection on intimacies and forms of being and collectivity by means of sculpture in the Rotunda of the Schirn. Maruša Sagadin uses humour and exaggeration in her stylistic language and in the use of colour to reveal mechanisms of inclusion and exclusion while breaking with established codes of viewing art. Playfully subversive, her works refer to elements of pop and subculture and applied art. Through the interplay of gender, language and sculpture, they subvert existing norms and thematise sculpture as a form of making things visible. On the occasion of Slovenia's Guest of Honour appearance at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2023, the artist will realise new works in the rotunda of the Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt. Show less

"A Tale of Two Worlds" sets out to establish a dialogue between two distinct narratives in Western contemporary art over the five decades spanning the 1940s and the 1980s: the European-North American canon and Latin American experimental art. The exhibition is structured as a stream of conversations, whereby topics relevant to the history of experimental art practices in Latin America are presented in dialogue with artworks from the MMK Collection. The project has been conceptualized and curated over the past year and a half between two cities - Buenos Aires and Frankfurt - and has a strong Southern perspective. Indeed, it marks the first time a European Museum collection has allowed itself to be reexamined by curators of Latin American art. The project is an answer to the call by the Kulturstiftung des Bundes (German Federal Cultural Foundation) on major museums in Germany to endow their collections with a more global perspective. mmk.art/en/whats-on/a-tale-of-two-worlds/ Show less

Ahu Dural - She Sees Nothing Ahu Dural (*1984, Berlin) transforms the city space Stadtraum in her exhibition "She Sees Nothing" into a space-consuming installation. The starting point is the continuation of a quotation by Beatriz Colomina of a text fragment, which is also the title of the exhibition. "Remarkably, she is facing the wall. She is almost an attachment to the wall. She sees nothing". Among other things, Colomina notes at this point how Le Corbusier has almost exclusively portrayed women whose faces are not recognized or which look towards the wall. She describes a photograph in which Charlotte Perriand herself poses, lying on one of her chaiselongues, her face facing the wall is not looking at the camera.. sammlungfriedrichshof.at/project-2-ahu-dural/?lang=en Show less
