      • Jan 2015 - Jan 2018

I was employed part-time by the Department of African languages at the University of Pretoria as a translation lecturer. I taught a research module for honours students (TRL 700) from 2015 to 2017 and was responsible for designing the entire curriculum. This year module introduces students to translation theory and the basic principles of research in the field of Translation Studies. In addition, I taught an honours course on translation principles and techniques (TRL 710) and an honours course on the use of Human Language Technology (TRL 711) in 2016 and 2017. I supervised one master's student during this time.

    • Assistant Lecturer
      • Feb 2015 - Nov 2015

In 2015 I worked as an assistant lecturer in the Unit for Academic Literacy at the University of Pretoria, where I taught academic literacy classes to students from various faculties. I taught one English module, but was mostly responsible for the Afrikaans classes. I also acted as the Afrikaans coordinator for two modules for law students (JUR 110 and JUR 120). The classes taught basic academic literacy and were linked closely to the respective disciplines in terms of text content. I was involved in curriculum design in two modules and translated course work into Afrikaans for the previously mentioned law modules. During this time I also conducted short courses for CE@UP in business writing and report writing. The delegates were from various sectors of industry and the courses involved teaching and conducting exercises to improve business-related writing.

The work consisted mostly of one-on-one consultations with students to aid them in improving their academic writing, but also entailed presenting workshops, designing sources and conducting marketing activities. In 2015 I was appointed as head Writing Centre consultant and my responsibilities were expanded to include administration.
