- Assisting the Equality and Human Rights Commission with an Inquiry into the court modernisation process that has introduced new technology into Courts in England, Wales and Scotland from 2019-2021. The Inquiry examines the procedural and practical adjustments required at the pre-trial stage. It seeks to understand the extent to which adult defendants with cognitive impairments, mental health conditions and/or neuro-diverse conditions can participate equally and effectively in criminal proceedings against them. - Conducted a comprehensive assessment of all of the existing secondary literature available publicly on the court transformation process in England, Wales and Scotland. - Undertook an extensive mapping exercise of police departments in England and Wales, Police Scotland, Prisons and Courts in all jurisdictions in order to understand the extent of modernisation to date and the extent of court modernisation across Great Britain. - Designed and administered a survey for defendants/accused, their supporters and Criminal Justice professionals includingcourt staff; Judges and Magistrates; prison staff and probation officers; solicitors and barristers; police officers; liaison and diversion practitioners; intermediaries; and professionals from the third sector. - Exploring the role of intergenerational movement building and engagement within in women’s and LGBT rights movements campaigning for political equality. - Mapping the approaches and movements in the regions of Pacific and Caribbean and Southern Africa with a country focus of: o Pacific: Fiji, PNG, Samoa, Tonga o Caribbean: Barbados, Jamaica, St Lucia, St Vincent & the Grenadines, Trinidad & Tobago o Southern Africa: Botswana, Kenya, Mauritius, Namibia and Uganda. - Undertook a comprehensive literature review on intergenerational movement building and the implications this has on ensuring diverse intergenerational representation, i.e. among lines of race, socio-economic class, religion, ethnicity, within LGBT and women’s rights movements. - Undertook qualitative semi-structured interviews with representatives youth activists and older generations activists from LGBT and women’s movements to qualitatively explore engagement best practice. - Produced a narrative research brief, and a civil society focused tool-kit outlining best practice and practical case studies for replication. UK Women and girls scoping study: incubating feminist ideas into action - Delivered a scoping study to uncover pioneering examples of feminist action from around the world that was successfully empowering women and girls. - Carried out a mapping exercise of feminist groups and funders operating in the UK and abroad. Interviewed key stakeholders to outline the different approaches used to generate feminist action and evaluate the impact made and differences in intended outcomes. - Assessed a number of specific examples of good practice, identified successes, as well as barriers and challenges to progress. - Reviewed how Comic Relief can add value to the sector by supporting women to incubate ideas and issues that become causes or movements, uncover current thinking, approaches and activities, and promote leadership within the sector. Scoping study for the Power Up grant - Designed and carried out a scoping study of women’s and girls’ organisations and movements in Comic Relief’s 15 priority countries to inform the Power Up grant. - Identified and analysed 350 organisations and movements through a rapid mapping exercise, including identifying purpose, activities, funders and key action areas. - Interviewed representatives from organisations in each key priority country to better understand the challenges and needs of women and girls, and women and girls’ organisations and movements, in each country. - Analysed the political, legislative and economic landscape for women and girls in each of Comic Relief’s priority countries, and the key challenges facing women and girls in the priority countries. - Developed recommendations on the trends in funding and capacity building needs of women’s and girls’ organisations and movements overall, as well as providing country specific context. Crisis with Thames Reach, St Mungos & Mind in the City, Hackney and Waltham Forest: Led a client consultation to provide a package of employment support for workless people who are experiencing severe and multiple disadvantage. We used a mixed qualitative and quantitative methodology in order to consult with clients in a variety of ways including focus groups interviews and a survey. The survey was co-created with community researchers who had experienced homelessness who also administered the survey to the participants. In total 82 clients connected with the four partners were part of the consultation either as a participant of the survey (39), focus group (30) or interviews (13). Afghanistan: with Amin Consulting Group: Team leader on an evaluation of the Children of Uruzgan programme aimed at improving services for women and children in Uruzgan. Evaluated Save the Children’s AUD35.7million Children of Uruzgan (CoU) program, funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). The CoU program focused on healthcare and education with two key objectives: 1) Increase access and use of Maternal and Child Health (MCH) services including the treatment of acute malnutrition, and 2) Increase access to basic education and improve delivery of comprehensive education services for children. The evaluation was conducted according to do-no-harm principles and leading ethical guidelines and used a results orientated evaluation methodology which looked at outputs, outcomes, effectiveness, sustainability, and equity. The evaluation applied a mixed methods approach of document review, qualitative focus groups and interviews with key informants, community stakeholders and program beneficiaries. In total, 328 respondents participated in the research. Of these, 115 (35%) of the respondents were women and girls. Myanmar: Baseline assessment of child protection case management: Conducted a baseline review of the child protection provision for children in 19 Townships of Myanmar. Designed tools to capture quantitative and qualitative information and through checklists, focus groups and interviews, assessed and presented an overview of the situation of child rights in Myanmar.
