Since 1995 I have worked closely with Marla Meg Gordon, of counsel at Kornstein Veisz & Wexler, representing several advertising agencies including Deutsch Inc. and Deutsch LA, Inc.   I was responsible for prebroadcast review and FCC matters at ABC's 8 owned television stations and 21 radio stations as well as a variety of first amendment matters, including writing comments on proposed FCC rules concerning indecency and working with Floyd Abrams on a major New York libel case (Prozeralik). I also had responsibilities for pre-broadcast review at 20/20. After leaving my full-time position at ABC, I worked part-time on several ABC News assignments. I worked with two other lawyers to obtain a new trial for a Florida death row inmate on the ground of ineffective assistance of counsel and also challenged Texas restrictions on teaching evolution on behalf of a pro bono client, People for the American Way.   I was lucky to get a reporting job right after college thanks to the progressive policies of editor Doug Turner, who believed in getting more women into the newsroom. I covered government, environmental matters (especially toxic waste issues), crime, the police beat and general news in Niagara County and then became reporter and bureau chief covering government in Erie County until I left for law school. I did not like lawyers much at the beginning of my career as a reporter, but over time found that they often were the people with access to the most accurate and complete information and the power to effect change.
