Sarah Scott

Mariah worked with our law firm full time as an Intern during law school. She was so enjoyable to work with, so thoughtful in her work, in both quality of work product and in her work ethic, and all the while maintaining a shining, positive attitude, that we were all very sad to see her go! I highly recommend Mariah. She is going to make a great attorney and will be an attribute to any firm.

Drafted memorandums and researched legal issues such as wrongful termination for employees in a public school district. I drafted client letters where I had to interpret legalese for teachers and school administrators. I volunteered to participate in negotiations, depositions, client meetings, and conference calls in order to better understand the field of employment law. I also responded to public records requests, prepared witness summaries for investigation reports, and assisted with marketing techniques for the firm such as compiling a booklet for the Education &Technology Conference that addresses problems school districts run into with protecting student’s First Amendment rights in the new age of technology.

Completed the initial consultation process with potential clients by collecting all relevant information and strategically filling out a questionnaire form with important facts. I scheduled client’s DMV Admin Per Se Hearings, prepared Subpoena Duces Tecum documents, and continuously updated client files and corresponded with clients daily so that they would always be involved with their own case and so I could foster a good relationship with clients. I also updated the firm’s document system by digitalizing all client files and making them more accessible to everyone at the firm.

Explained complex legal concepts and provided all relevant legal information to litigants at the Stanley Mosk self-help center who were unable to afford an attorney. I helped these litigants complete various legal documents relating to family law matters such as paternity cases, dissolution of marriage, restraining orders, etc. I helped multiple parents be able to have visitation rights and assure that their child is in a safe environment.
