      • Jul 2010 - Aug 2010

Volunteer Work in Dr Leonidas Phylactou’s “Molecular Genetics: Function and Therapy” laboratory where I have participated and carried out molecular biology experiments in the area of human genetics -Practiced the techniques of PCR, agarose gel electrophoresis and DNA sequencing in an attempt to identify mutations associated with melanoma in the Cypriot population in CDKN2A and MC1R genes. -Had to do most work on my own as my supervisor was also Head of Department in The Frederic University in Cyprus and had to be at meetings most of the times. As a result I had to perform the experiments by myself after my first week and thus gained invaluable experience in organising the experiment, managing my time and dealing with some problems that appeared in the sequencing of MC1R gene.
