My research project "Who gets evidence-based therapy for psychosis following a psychiatric hospital admission? Follow-up data from an inpatient randomised controlled trial" investigated the most common predictors of being offered evidence-based treatment for psychosis. I prepared and analysed a large data set, which included data cleaning, secondary data analysis and application of elaborate statistical techniques. This required adopting an analytical approach, great attention to detail and high levels of organisation. I also wrote the research paper as first author. The paper is now published in the "Psychiatry Research" journal.

A key aspect of my placement was co-leading and collaborating on service projects aimed at increasing access to the service among groups at risk of developing mental health problems. I was able to establish collaborative networks with different mental health institutions and organise access workshops. Additionally, I initiated and co-led a Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) outreach project, as part of which I worked alongside local BME organisations and organised talks and workshops aimed at breaking mental health stigma and increasing referrals to the service from these communities.

Participant in the People to People Leadership Summit at Harvard University
-
Jul 2014 - Aug 2014
My participation in the summit involved engaging in debates regarding global issues with students from all over the world and completing the Leadership Studies Course, as part of which I developed both an in individual and group community action plan, which addressed a social problem witnessed in our community. This allowed me to improve my leadership and initiative skills, as well as other transferable skills, making me suitable for taking part in both individual and group projects. Certificate of Completion awarded- Grade A.
