Senior Practical Trainer
-
Mar 2017 - Jun 2017
During the traineeship I was involved in an ongoing in vivo (mouse) experiment with the goal to improve the Niemann-Pick C1 disease pathology, a rare lysosomal storage disease that shares underlying mechanism with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (liver inflammation). We investigate the potential of dietary compounds, such as plant stanol, as a treatment for the disease. To assess that I analized different metabolic tissues and gained laboratory experience with techniques such as ELISA and Immunohistochemical stainings among others. I completed all the experiments required for the preparation and writing of my Master Degree Thesis on "Plant stanol ester as a dietary therapy for Niemann-Pick Type C1 disease". Knowledge, skills and competences acquired: • Lab techniques: Immunohistochemical stainings, plasma lipid measurement, RNA isolation, cDNA synthesis, qPCR, ELISA, basic cell cultures; • Data interpretation and analysis of own results; • Gathering backgroung information, formulate research question and hypotesis to write an experimental thesis; • Gaining insight in other project within the department partecipating in weekly labchats and monthly Seminars; • Gaining presentation skills presenting own data in weekly Labchat.
