The CPTF was mandated to advise federal, provincial and territorial governments on the elements of an improved approach to pain care, education, research and data/surveillance in Canada and work with the public, private and non governmental sectors to advance action. The work of the CPTF culminated in A National Action Plan for Pain in Canada. I co-authored VCH’s Community Engagement Framework (http://www.vch.ca/media/CE%20Booklet%202009.pdf), recognized as the first Canadian organizational framework on community engagement in health care and adapted for use by health care and non-profit organizations across Canada and elsewhere. Working hand-in-hand with the leaders, staff, patients and their families, and community organizations, we successfully embedded engagement approach within the organization and fostered new approaches to community partnerships. In addition to working within VCH, I advised senior governmental partners across Canada on organizational and provincial policy initiatives related to community involvement in health care.
