Bio
Ruben Avila
I have had the distinct pleasure of working with Maria for 3 years in the state-funded ASES after-school program. Maria has routinely raised the bar for her colleagues and has added indispensible amount of quality to the program through her commitment to excellence. She is hard working, and has always expected no less from the students she worked with. I have no doubt she will succeed in her future professional endeavors. Maria always shows up to work with new ideas to improve our program. She planned and hosted several fundraisers in aid of our budgetary shortcomings. She took on the majority of the responsibility of these projects alone, and was very careful in coordinating the logistics of the events. It is with no doubt that her positive relationships with school staff and parents had a positive effect on the financial success of the fundraising events. Due to the nature of the ASES program, we have many parents who are not able to communicate in English. Maria has always found a way to create unparalleled rapport with the parents. However, the most impressive feat she has accomplished while liaising with the parents, is the ability to make frustrated parents feel like strategic partners in their children’s education. Maria has a wonderful way of empowering parents through honest feedback, and being a good listener.
