Facilitate conversational English classes throughout the semester to international students. The program aims to help practice English, introduce Australian culture, and provide a safe environment for students to develop confidence and friendships during their stay at Monash University. Responsibilities include preparing classes, teamwork with my fellow facilitators, engaging students to participate and to keep students’ attendance high over the semester. My classes in semester 2, 2019 achieved the highest student attendance throughout the semester. This position has sharpened my ability to relate to people from different cultural backgrounds, to present complex information in a digestible and interactive manner, and to tackle unforeseen situations. Worked on research projects during a placement at a pharmaceutical manufacturing plant. First project was on developing a preliminary design technique for industrial equipment used to separate opioids. Laboratory results were compared to computer models to develop a preliminary design. At the end, project resulted in improvements on computer model to create more accurate results. Second project was on researching an acid which does not lead to calcium blockages in pumps and pipework. Laboratory work was performed to find several acids considering cost, quantity and availability on site. Project results indicated the most efficient acid from the acids available to reduce blockages but suggested further research into other acids to provide optimum results at the plant. I developed professional skills working with engineers, scientists and plant operators. My computer modeling skills improved along with my ability to compare and contrast different solution options. In addition, I gained experience working in a laboratory, dealing with hazardous material, learning about emergency and safety protocols. Towards the end of my placement, I had to present my suggestions for improving the computer model and make a substantive case for proposed solutions. Show less
