Diabetes has become more of an issue in San Antonio & Bexar County than in the US and other parts of Texas. This is why the City of San Antonio Metro Health started the Diabetes Prevention & Control program. I am part of a team that offers services free to the community to help prevent and control diabetes. As a member of this team, I focus on assisting our community get access to information that will help them make healthy changes to either lower their risk of developing diabetes or other chronic conditions, or take control of their present symptoms. I also focus on serving and outreaching to our Spanish-speaking community. In Bexar County, the Hispanic or Latino population suffers the most diabetic amputations and the highest hospitalization due to diabetes. In this program, I work to help our medically-underserved populations get the resources they need to live a healthier life. Show less
