  In this project, we work with newly synthesized small molecules, compounds, potent in killing MRSA and VRE. Two important Gram+ antibiotic resistant bacteria causing hospital-acquired infections. My task is primarily to find the target protein of our compounds with research in the field of chemical proteomics. I use tool-compounds in target protein enrichment. Quantitative mass spectrometry analysis is performed to identify the isolated target protein. Potential hits are followed up with a molecular biology approach. Functional assays, making and analysing mutants and CETSA are some of the techniques used to confirm the target protein. Finding the target protein will help us to explain the mechanism of action of the compounds and hence take us one step closer to a new treatment for antibiotic resistant bacteria.
