Margo is an experienced OD/HR Director that delivers results. She quickly gets to grips with large complex organisations and is expert at whole system change. She is a strategic thinker, but also delivers pragmatic solutions and achieves high levels of engagement. She is open and transparent and an excellent coach.

Margo joined my team at NHS England on secondment from her substantive role as Director of OD with the North West Ambulance Service and made an immediate and positive impact. She provided strong leadership for work to improve our HR policy arrangements and to support and develop our partnership working relationship with the trade unions. Really importantly, Margo provided personal support to me and additional senior capacity in a very small corporate HR function, bringing more focus to managing our outsourced arrangements for HR advisory and transactional activities. Margo is an experienced Director of HR and OD and, like me, has worked across different parts of the public sector. She has good presentation skills, is adept at influencing and works really well as part of a team. Margo also made major strides in developing a traditional HR function within the North West Ambulance Service which had previously suffered from a really old-fashioned personnel/industrial relations culture. Modernising the function, the focus of the team and making major strides in organisational improvement and external accreditation of people management and development in the Trust were all down to her leadership. Additionally, as a Board Director and woman operating in a predominantly "macho" and male dominated service, Margo consistently demonstrated her resilience, tenacity and grit. Margo was a pleasure to work with, both directly and as an ambulance service peer previously, and has helped me stabilise the team and helped secure fantastic appointments to the substantive roles. Margo will be a great HR/OD consultant and I wish her well for the future.

In this leadership role I worked with the CEO and Board to deliver strategic priorities across a complex health economy. Authoring the organisation’s first World Class Commissioning OD strategy and action plan I improved workforce efficiency, governance and support for better clinical engagement across the sub-region. Cementing partnerships with senior stakeholders across the Liverpool health economy I ensured delivery of an Out of Hospital strategy predicated by Royal Liverpool new build with reduction of 300 beds. As equality and diversity lead I secured £150k external funding to support employment, up-skilling of minority groups. Following implementation of the OD action plan staff engagement indicators showed Trust at least 10% above national average for PCTs.

I managed a multi-faceted organisational and cultural change programme following a period of civil disturbances in the borough. Managing a £4m OD strategy budget, and with accountability to Government Office NW, I was executive policy advisor to CEO and Council Leader in their roles to create a strategic development plan for Greater Manchester. I led the OD team and directly supported the CEO in driving the Council’s 10 year OD programme. Working with the Council Leader on improvement projects we won 4 Beacon Awards for best practice in local government. This included designing and delivering extensive management and leadership development programmes. I led the OD team and directly supported the CEO in driving the Council’s 10 year OD programme.
