Primary coordinating site: The Telethon Institute in Western Australia. Secondary site: Monash University, Clayton in Melbourne, Victoria. Background of StudyThe effectiveness of educational and behavioural early interventions in treating autism are highly dependent on the amount of time spent with a trained therapist which most families are unable to access or provide. Therefore, an intervention method that can improve the time and cost effectiveness of early intervention has the potential to provide a large benefit to the community. TOBY (Therapy Outcomes By You) Playpad is an iPad educational application (app) developed by a team of computer scientists, psychologists and speech pathologists. The TOBY app may provide an affordable and easily accessible intervention method to supplement existing early learning therapy.Aim of studyThe study aims to determine the effectiveness of the TOBY Playpad app as a complement to early behavioural intervention and examine the attitudes and beliefs of parents towards TOBY as an intervention method.
