Margarett is an invaluable resource to playwrights. She has a great knack for seeing what's inside a play, waiting to be developed, and encouraging playwrights to dig deeper where necessary and prune away what's not helping the cause. She's kind, she's funny, and she's smart as a whip.

    • Director of Mr. Lincoln by Tom Klingenstein
      • Sep 2009 - Nov 2009

Broadway veterans Peter Jay Fernandez and Jane Summerhays star in Tom Klingenstein's drama Mr. Lincoln, which will run weekends, October 10-November 15 at the New York Historical Society (170 Central Park West), in conjunction with the museum's upcoming exhibit Lincoln and New York. The play, to be directed by Margarett Perry, dramatizes the 1906 reunion of a former slave and a New York society matron who met each other, and Abraham Lincoln, when Lincoln came to New York in 1860 to deliver a speech at The Cooper Union. The show will feature production design by Solomon Weisbard, costume design by David Toser, and audiovisual design by Ross Minichello. The play is free with admission to the museum. • A Play On Words by Brian Dykstra
      • May 2009 - Jun 2009

Seinfeld meets Waiting for Godot in this ferociously witty play on, about and exploding with language. Rusty and Max have been friends since grade school and they’ve been arguing almost the entire time. Today they're scheming up something big. Brian Dykstra’s signature style crackles in this uproarious romp through backyard suburbia where two (slightly above average) Average Joes spar in a relentlessly fanatical pursuit of what is said, what is intended, and what is. • Director of NO PAROLE
      • Oct 2008 - Nov 2008

A new solo show by Carlo D'Amore Carlo D’Amore immigrated to the US at age 11. Before that impoverishing journey, he had been with his affluent family in Peru. NO PAROLE is his multi-character, one-man show which introduces us to his family, which was not as well-off in the US, but headed by a fiery Latina mother intent on providing for them at any cost. With sound scores for transitions, Carlo plays all characters, composites of people he has known and observed, weaving a tale of family structure as rigid and confining as the steel bars of the set on which he performs. As he says, “Family is a life sentence.” Show less
