I work with Prof. Shelley Wright in UC San Diego's Optical and InfraRed Laboratory (OIR Lab). I primarily study the evolution of galaxies through observations of the gaseous regions that have undergone recent star formation. To do this, I use innovative integral field spectrographs on some of the largest optical and near-infrared telescopes in the world to observe both local and distant galaxies.I also work on the design of opto-mechanical components for a next generation imager and integral field spectrograph, Liger, which will go on one of the 10-m Keck telescopes. This instrument will take advantage of the ongoing upgrade to the Keck adaptive optics system, KAPA. Show less

I worked with Dr. Vardha N. Bennert using emissions spectra of active galaxies to gain insight into the AGN phenomenon (particularly the FeII emissions, Hβ emission line variability and mass scaling relations). I primarily worked with the UNIX, IDL, and Supermongo tools to fit spectra and analyze the resulting data. This work led to me being a co-author on a paper in the Astrophysical Journal titled: "A Local Baseline of the Black Hole Mass Scaling Relations for Active Galaxies III. the MBH-σ Relation" and the second author on a paper titled: "Broad Hβ Emission-Line Variability in a Sample of 102 Local Active Galactic Nuclei" Show less
