I started by doing microbiological and chemical analysis of final products, along with writing up standard operating procedures (SOP's), and assisting with the Food safety systems of the company. I then lead product development for new formulations of our natural food colourants (Turmeric & Paprika). As time progressed, my knowledge and experience of food safety systems grew, along with the quality control procedures of the company. This lead to doing various supplier approval practices along with internal and- external supplier audits. Key achievements: • Implementation of FSSC 22 000 food safety system (2022): Aligning GrayTec’s policies and procedures to ISO 22002-1 & ISO 22002-2- legislation. • Implementation of supplier audit questionnaires complying to ISO 22002-1 & ISO 22002-2- legislation (2022). • Product development of Paprika & Turmeric natural colourants (2017 – 2018). My current responsibilities include: • Quality control of final products & raw materials • Internal and- supplier audits • Supplier approval programme • Maintaining the FSSC 22 000 system • Customer complaints • Traceability studies • Internal microbiological swabs • Implementation of the Hygiene Program • Product release – issuing Certificate of Analysis (COA’s) Website updates became part of my role as I took initiative to rebuild the website myself. When I started the website looked from the 1990s. The current website is not of a professional standard, but is at least much better than it was. Show less

During my degree I really enjoyed analytical chemistry and specific techniques to use for quantification. I was very privileged to do some vacation work at the ARC in Stellenbosch. I gained very valuable experience of the following: -Extractions of honeybush tea -Understanding the principles behind a high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) machine and interpreting the data -Statistical analysis of the data from the HPLC machine -Principles of a freeze dryer During my degree I really enjoyed analytical chemistry and specific techniques to use for quantification.
