My research activities were focused on the development of a position sensitive detector based on the coincidence signal produced when a charged particle simultaneously strikes two overlapping pixels. The pixels integrate, in a mololithic stucture, both the SPAD sensor and the readout electronics. I worked on the APiX and its continuation APiX2 founded by INFN (Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare). I developed a fully automated microcontroller based measurement system in order to characterize the chips designed in a 180 nm high voltage (HV) CMOS technology, acquiring skills in the design of complex measurement system. I wrote the code able to correctly configure and manage the chip, collecting data which are automatically send to the Matlab environment for the post-processing phase. Beside the characterization activity, I designed a newly and more complex chip acquiring the knowledge and the skills to design integrated microelectronic circuits for pixel sensor readout, also including structures such as 10-bit ripple counter and in-pixel memory. I followed the project I worked on from the definition of the design specifications, to the architectural, schematic and layout design and tapeout, cooperating in close contact with other research groups (University of Siena, Pisa and Trento). During my activity at the Electronic Instrumentation Laboratory of the University of Pavia as a PhD student, I have also had the opportunity to cooperate in the coordination of the activities of thesis students. I authored or co-authored 5 papers. 1 publication in international journal as first author, 3 conference proceedings and other works presented to conference. Show less
